ContributorNetwork – COMMENTARY | Conditions in Syria haven’t gotten any better, so President Barack Obama told his ambassador to pack it up and come home. It’s about time. The bloodshed has continued for nearly a year and few countries seem to have the wherewithal to insist that the bloodshed stop.

This isn’t surprising at all, or at least the actions of Russia and China. What’s surprising is how firm — even bellicose — Ambassador Susan Rice comes across in her statements. I’m long past the point of regime change in Syria, and we don’t need the U.N to do it. At the New York Times , ” Russia and China Block U.N. Action on Syrian Crisis .”

Former ambassador to Luxembourg and Republican National Committee finance chairman Peter Terpeluk Jr. was extremely active in GOP campaign fundraising efforts. Terpeluk passed away yesterday, reportedly of a heart attack while en route to meetings in Austin for the campaign of Texas Gov. Rick Perry. In addition to the announcement of his passing and funeral arrangements, a death notice in the Washington Post reads: “In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Perry for President 2012.” A man dedicated to his cause indeed. According to  National Journal’s obituary on Ambassador Terpeluk, he was a fundraiser for Perry. And it seems he remains one. (H/T:  Burns & Haberman )

Left Coast Rebel is not impressed, ” Jon Huntsman’s Candidacy May Have Worked in Different Times… ” The one thing I have noticed is Huntsman’s frankly weird presidential rollout. Candidates announced late this year, which surprised me, but Huntsman was laying the formal groundwork for a campaign while still serving as Ambassador to China . Sounds like what a Democrat would do, so I don’t know. We’ll see, in any case. More at New York Times , ” Huntsman Finishes Opening Day with Big Money Haul ” (via Memeorandum ).

These Days Are Good Days to Bury Bad News

On March 21, 2011, in Uncategorized, by kohler

With Japan and the world spending the past week worrying about a nuclear reactor, and new military action in Libya, it's a wonderful time for politicians to let out bad news, certain that it will be overshadowed by the dramatic news overseas. Did you know that last week, all of Mexico's major political parties demanded the recall of our ambassador ? It stems from the ATF operation that included “gunwalking,” which is letting suspected cartel cutouts purchase massive amounts of firearms from U.S. gun shops and allowing them to take them across the border in Mexico, hoping that ATF will
