In a tweet Thursday night from the auditorium, Inquirer Staff writer Tom Infield reported that Delaney “seemed high or ill, or something. She stumbled in speaking. Had to be led to seat.” No word yet from Delaney’s representatives what might have caused her behavior.

Some news agencies refuse to report the racial identity of those committing flash mob violence around the country, and political correctness prohibits a frank discussion of the issue among civic leaders and national policy makers. The purpose of this effort is to determine whether such departments are involved in racial profiling of blacks and Latinos and whether they are engaged in police brutality. Since that announcement, events have unfolded in some of those cities that reveal how misplaced that policy initiative actually is. In Chicago, the District of Columbia, Milwaukee and Philadelphia, a group of “flash mobs” have unmercifully terrorized residents of those communities – attacking citizens, breaking windows of business establishments and stealing merchandise, and committing other random acts of violence. In each instance, the mobs have been overwhelmingly, if not exclusively, black youth. This fact has accounted for the failure of most of the news media to report either the events themselves or the racial background of the perpetrators. Several news sources have readily admitted that it is their practice not to mention the racial identity of those involved in criminal activity. Jim Stingl, a columnist for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, recently wrote, “This newspaper normally avoids mentioning the race of people involved in crimes, unless it’s part of a description to help apprehend someone at large.” Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter is not afflicted with the same disease of political correctness as many in the media. In a recent 30-minute sermon delivered from the pulpit of his Baptist church, Nutter confronted the culture that many of us believe drives the behavior of these individuals when he said, “You have damaged your own race…Take those God-darn hoodies down, especially in the summer. Pull your pants up and buy a belt ‘cause no one wants to see your underwear or the crack of your butt.’’ “If you walk into somebody’s office with your hair uncombed and a pick in the back, and your shoes untied, and your pants half down, tattoos up and down your arms and on your neck, and you wonder why somebody won’t hire you? They don’t hire you ‘cause you look like you’re crazy,” the mayor said. Mayor Nutter is correct. When we have young people burglarizing stores and neighborhoods and beating up bystanders without provocation, there is obviously a widespread cultural problem in the group committing these acts. That reality must be faced and the thugs responsible for these acts should not be ignored or coddled. They and their parents, if there are parents in the households, should be held accountable for their behavior. It’s racist violence. Black racist mobs attacking whites. Fresh off last month’s story about the 51-year-old Oregon woman who wasn’t allowed to wear a string bikini top inside a Walmart , there’s a new report from Louisiana about a man arrested after allegedly driving through the store’s parking lot “with his penis exposed.” It happened Tuesday in Ouachita, La., but there’s more: Travis Brent Keen, 28, said he had a reason for his behavior — he told a police officer he took his penis out because he gets “aroused” at the mega-retailer. “Keen stated he did have his penis out because of past experiences he had at Wal-Mart,” the police report , obtained by the Smoking Gun , said. “Keen stated when he comes to Wal-Mart he gets aroused.” According to the report, a witness called police after seeing a man in a car drive by “with his penis exposed” and would stop and watch the females in the parking lot. He was charged with obscenity and is being held on $5,000 bail.

Hikers in Olympic National Park in Washington state are being urged not to urinate along backcountry trails in order to avoid attracting mountain goats who lick the urine deposits for salt. The warnings are part of a plan that comes in the wake of a man’s death last October after a mountain goat gored him in the thigh. Louise Johnson, the park’s chief of natural resources management, told the Peninsula Daily News that urging visitors not to relieve themselves is “a new concept.” “We’re trying to get a better understanding of the behavior of mountain goats and their attraction to salt,” Johnson said. Park officials also plan to engage in “aversive conditioning” of goats spotted in the area, including setting off sirens and compressed air horns, and shooting rubber projectiles and bean bags. Aversive conditioning will be used by park staff for all animals that do not habitually move off a trail when a hiker approaches, even if they can be easily shooed away. Allen West (R-Fla.) used an email to constituents to respond to a threat against his Florida office last week and to warn critics to “be careful of whom you are choosing to employ these tactics against.” Last week, West’s Florida office received an envelope containing white powder and a letter with derogatory remarks directed at the congressman. A hazmat team later determined the powder wasn’t harmful. “This incident, is just another in several incidents that have occurred over the last couple of years and, have put me in quite a bad mood,” West wrote in an email sent to constituents Tuesday. He offered the example of a “liberal blogger publicly stating that he wanted to ‘skin me alive,’ ” and a protest outside his office led by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) “castigating me as a ‘misogynist.’ ” “I find it interesting that in all of these instances, the media simply dismissed the incidents,” West said. “One might wonder — is it open season on a principled black conservative?” **** “Let me be very clear to all reading this missive, but mostly to liberals who subscribe to this behavior, be careful of whom you are choosing to employ these tactics against,” wrote West. “I consider myself an easy-going fella who will always engage in intense intellectual exchange.
