A Severe Conservative Speaks at CPAC

On February 11, 2012, in barack obama, Uncategorized, by Paulzone

Mitt Romney got a warm reception at CPAC, standing ovations . . . the works. He did nothing to calm fears that he is not one of us. In fact, he might have made it worse today. He ad-libbed one particular portion of his speech that just may give away the game for him with the CPAC crowd. He threw in this line: “I fought against long odds in a deep blue state, but I was a severely conservative Republican governor.” What the heck is a severe conservative? The man who likes to fire people should probably fire Miriam-Webster, in addition to whoever came up with his strategy for Minnesota, Missouri, and Colorado. A severe conservative? It sounds more like a critique of conservatives from the left than that of a conservative himself. In fact, if you want to read only one thing on Mitt Romney’s views of conservatives, I actually think Chris Orr of The New Republic captures the situation best. Orr writes on Quentin Tarantion’s view of Superman as discussed in the movie Kill Bill 2 . Superman was born Superman. It’s Clark Kent that is the invented alias, the pose, the “costume.” And in the way Superman plays Kent–weak, self-doubting, cowardly–we see his critique of the human race. It occurred to me that the same is true of Romney’s desperate, if never terribly persuasive, impersonation of a conservative Republican. That persona–angry, simple-minded, xenophobic, jingoistic–is exactly what Romney (who is himself cultured, content, and cosmopolitan) imagines the average GOP voter to be. I think that is perhaps one of the most accurate reads on Romney today and why so many of us think he is not what he claims to be. Just randomly, on the actual issue of Superman, Jim Pethokoukis is correct that Quentin Tarantino got Superman wrong. I think what he means is that Mitt Romney is actually Bruce Wayne, a shallow playboy super rich businessman. ( Kidding )

In Fog of Warfare, Obama’s Message to Business

On January 26, 2012, in Uncategorized, by HansonLorna33

President Obama’s State of the Union address offered much to business, but it also showed that companies will be something of a battleground across which the forces of 2012 populism—from the left and the right—will wage their campaigns.

The Blaze teams up with Yahoo!

On November 9, 2011, in Uncategorized, by

Big news is on the horizon. THE BLAZE is teaming up with Yahoo! to broaden news coverage going into the presidential election. We’ll have more details soon, but for now, read this from ” The Hollywood Reporter “: Yahoo is promising the most extensive political coverage in its history, beginning Tuesday with live interviews of the eight top Republican candidates for president and through to Election Day on Nov. 6, 2012. Another addition to Yahoo’s effort is the Signal, a Web site that will use sophisticated prediction models that combines data from InTrade — where users can gamble on the outcome of political events — with the latest polls along with Twitter and other social-networking data to determine the odds of various political outcomes. On Tuesday, for example, the Signal said that Herman Cain’s chances for becoming the Republican nominee for president were nearly cut in half, to 3.8 percent, after Gloria Allred’s press conference Monday with a woman claiming she was sexually harassed by Cain 14 years ago. In the future, the Signal will feature predictive-type games and other interactive elements. Yahoo has also partnered with journalists and opinion writers from the left and right, like The Atlantic , FactCheck.org, Forbes , National Journal , The Week and Glenn Beck’s TheBlaze.com. “We’re trying to do something more than just expanded political coverage,” said Robertson Barrett , vp news and finance at Yahoo.

Jack Coleman over at NewsBusters caught Ed Schultz in a fresh instance of hypocrisy. Schultz went ballistic and called Glenn Beck ‘irresponsible’ for saying social unrest similar to London could happen in America as well. Didn’t take but a few days for Schultz to step in it: All that aptly-titled “Psycho Talk” from Schultz has apparently affected his memory. Here’s what Schultz warned yesterday of possible consequences if the government doesn’t offer tax breaks to corporations to return jobs they’ve outsourced  (audio) — “It’s either that or keep going down the road of the new normal which we’re traveling right now which, who knows where it’s going to end up? It could end up in social unrest in this country. It really could.” How utterly irresponsible of you to suggest that, Ed. This is just one example of the stunning hypocrisy coming from the left, especially in regards to Glenn Beck. The standard attack on Beck is that he’s a fear monger, crazy, paranoid, and so on, meanwhile the left wants you to believe that if we don’t drive more hybrids and go green, the oceans will rise 23 inches and destroy all of humanity & planet Earth. THAT’s the pinnacle of sanity, but Beck and his ‘hey, we’re spending too much and people might start burning cars like they are doing in London, Greece, Spain and Europe if we don’t stop it’ is ‘psycho’ talk. The left mock Glenn for encouraging people to store food and be prepared for anything — as if that’s a stupid idea. At the same time they say Barack Obama saved America from going off a cliff. Wait, I thought it was crazy to be prepared? This line of attack is silly, but don’t expect it to stop any time soon. H/T Newsbusters

No applause for the details here, because there are none, so Obama’s starring deal gets shrugs at best from the Left and Right.

‘Gang of Six’ Budget Blueprint Booed by Both Sides

From the comments at this post : Cynthia said… I think you’ve missed a few bases that should be covered. Pointing the finger at the right-wing hate speech isn’t knee-jerk and unfounded. Would you like a list of all the right-wingers who’ve carried out murder in the last 10 years and how no liberals have? I think this point is pertinent, but including it takes a lot of the air out of your argument. Perhaps, as a liberal, I’m sick and tired of being portrayed as sub-human and treated as such in the blogosphere. By identifying myself as liberal I’m fair game – probably because right-wingers know all they’ll get out of me is civil discourse while they rage and insult. It’s dehumanizing to hear speeches made by tea partiers implying and standing next to militias who outright say that America needs to rid itself of us liberal scum. Are you really going to say that that kind of language comes from the left in equal proportion to the right? You can go ahead and try, but I’ll be right here with a mountain of proof to prove you wrong. I responded at the link , but Cynthia’s comments are problematic and worth further rebuttal. For one thing, I’d like to see the list she’s talking about. Most political killings in the last few years have been perpetrated by unhinged fringe loners. There’s perhaps been one political murder committed by an alleged right-winger in recent years (Scott Roeder, himself mentallly unstable), and mainstream conservatives and Republicans unequivocally repudiated the attack. Until Cynthia produces the list, that’s really all that needs to be said. On the other hand, Michelle has compiled the ultimate ” illustrated primer ” of left-wing progressive hatred. Pictured here is the ” Mother I’d Love to Punch ,” at The Edge of Forever. And as Michelle indicates: ***** The Tucson massacre ghouls who are now trying to criminalize conservatism have forced our hand. They need to be reminded. You need to be reminded. Confront them. Don’t be cowed into silence. And don’t let the media whitewash the sins of the hypocritical Left in their naked attempt to suppress the law-abiding, constitutionally-protected, peaceful, vigorous political speech of the Right. They want to play tu quo que in the middle of a national tragedy ? They asked for it. They got it. *** The progressive climate of hate: A comprehensive illustrated primer in 8 parts : I. PALIN HATE II. BUSH HATE III. MISC. TEA PARTY/GOP/ANTI-TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE HATE IV. ANTI-CONSERVATIVE FEMALE HATE V. LEFT-WING MOB HATE — campus, anti-war radicals, ACORN, eco-extremists, & unions VI. OPEN-BORDERS HATE VII. ANTI-MILITARY HATE VIII. HATE: CRIMES — the ever-growing Unhinged Mugshot Collection ***** More later. Meanwhile, I’ll be waiting for Cynthia’s reply …

Progressives and the Giffords Shooting: Setting New Records of Depravity

Lot of calls for violence from the left these days… “Republicans are so stupid, so grossly stupid, ignorant, they think that’s a good thing. The government will be insolvent, this is what the teabaggers and the right-wing Republicans, Libertarians have been pushing for a long time. Well you animals are gonna get it, here are these late middle-aged cretins who are cutting their own throats because there’s a black man in the White House, really, is that all black folk  had to do to pound the white race into oblivion, put a black man in the White House and the white people will all stand up and commit suicide? Leftist haters trying to put women off using painkillers
