**Written by Doug Powers The “global warming will cause a chocolate shortage” scare tactic isn’t entirely new , but apparently spreading the rumor that a Whitman’s Sampler will cost as much as a Chevy Volt within a decade if developed countries don’t give trillions of dollars to the United Nations wasn’t causing sufficient truffle panic among the general public. Now, a slightly altered tactic: Do it Al Gore’s way or Valentine’s Day as we know it might cease to exist : A new mini-report from the environmental group Climate Nexus points out that climate change is poised to wreck Valentine’s Day, or at least change it significantly, by threatening chocolate production. That’s right. Global warming is very bad for chocolate. As reported by The Times, research from the International Center for Tropical Agriculture found last year that as temperatures rise, the principal growing regions for cocoa could shrink, especially in Ghana and Ivory Coast, the sources of half the world’s supply. Production could fall off dramatically by 2050, making cocoa less available and more expensive. Cupid’s lament . The story doesn’t say this, but if you notice your chocolates starting to melt, take them to the Himalayas — there’s still plenty of ice there. Isn’t chocolate high in calories and fat? If anything, global warming should be endorsed by the “Let’s Move” campaign and everybody should be encouraged to fire up their SUVs and gas powered leaf blowers to help win the battle against obesity. **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

Reminder: Global Warming Still Going to Cause Chocolate Shortage

**Written by Doug Powers In an ad set to air during Sunday’s Super Bowl, aliens from outer space want to make sure their tax money didn’t get dumped into the Chevy Volt pit — at least that’s my take on it : Ahead of the big game, Chevrolet has released its upcoming Super Bowl advertisement for the plug-in hybrid on the internet, in which a man in a bathrobe goes out to his garage in the middle of the night and discovers a group of little cone-headed green and purple creatures inspecting a Volt. Exasperated by what seems to be a recurring event, he tells them, “I’ll say it again, it’s electric, but when I need to go farther it uses gas. Please tell me you understand.” Here’s the ad: ***** There were 603 Volts sold in January, so encouraging sales numbers like that certainly justify shelling out the big bucks for some out-of-this-world ad time to attempt a product re-launch during the Super Bowl. It’s not as expensive an ad purchase as it might sound. If the average Super Bowl spot this year is going for $3.5 million, then, according to some estimates, the commercial time was purchased at the total cost of just 14 Volts . The spot would be more effective on a “high tech” level if the ET’s would have ditched their spacecraft in the guy’s driveway and taken the car instead, but even fiction has its limits when it comes to suspension of disbelief. **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

Concrete Evidence Man is Causing Glacier Retreat

On February 2, 2012, in Uncategorized, by RomieObriant368

**Written by Doug Powers For a long time I wasn’t convinced that glacier shrinkage was part of a natural earth-sun cycle and not caused by anything man was doing, but I stand corrected : Police in Chile have arrested a man on suspicion of stealing five tonnes of ice from the Jorge Montt glacier in the Patagonia region to sell as designer ice cubes in bars and restaurants. Local media reported that last Friday police intercepted a refrigerated truck with an estimated £3,900 worth of illicit ice allegedly bound for whiskies, rums and cocktails in the capital Santiago. Authorities have accused the driver of theft and are considering adding violation of national monuments to the charge sheet. Scientists say Jorge Montt, part of the Bernardo O’Higgins national park, is retreating by half a mile a year, making it one of the world’s fastest shrinking glaciers. Add that to the list of causes . **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

Concrete Evidence Man is Causing Glacier Retreat

**Written by Doug Powers Late last year it was reported that California’s high speed rail project wouldn’t be completed for 22 years and would end up costing about $100 billion , which is three times the initial estimate. The project received over $2 billion from the stimulus. Gov. Jerry Brown now says the cost won’t be nearly that much, because somehow carbon fees levied on businesses (some of which would no doubt flee the state) will fund a good portion of the construction: “It’s not going to be $100 billion,” the Democratic governor said on ABC 7′s Eyewitness Newsmakers program. “That’s way off.” Brown’s remarks come as his administration prepares revisions to the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s latest business plan. Brown is trying to push the project through an increasingly skeptical Legislature following a series of critical reports. “Phase 1, I’m trying to redesign it in a way that in and of itself will be justified by the state investment,” Brown said. “We do have other sources of money: For example, cap-and-trade, which is this measure where you make people who produce greenhouse gasses pay certain fees – that will be a source of funding going forward for the high speed rail.” Brown said, “It’s going to be a lot cheaper than people are saying.” Wait a minute. So if industry stops spewing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere right now (thereby of course saving the planet from global warming) there won’t be enough cap/trade money for the government to build the latest bankruptcy-inducing glimmer in Joe Biden’s eye? I’ve yet to hear a more convincing argument for going green. Not unlike the government taxing tobacco and using some of the money to pay for SCHIP , the “green” movement has developed a Catch-22 dependence the very things they seek to eliminate. So keep those smokestacks spewing filth and pay those carbon fees, California industry, because Moonbeam has a “green” rail system to pay for so the planet can be saved from global warming! At least it helps explain recent decisions like this . I’m amazed by a bureaucratic mindset that believes forcing a portion of the price tag of a bloated project onto select areas of the private sector will lower the cost to the government, and therefore the taxpayers. Take it away, Governor: **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

**Written by Doug Powers The ultimate goal is to clone Al Gore to serve as a weatherman at every local television station so he can offer the patented Hypocrite-Cast

At Pirates Cove, ” 16 Concerned Scientists: Chill Out, No Need to Freak Over Anthropogenic Global Warming .” And following the links, see Wall Street Journal , ” No Need to Panic About Global Warming “: A candidate for public office in any contemporary democracy may have to consider what, if anything, to do about “global warming.” Candidates should understand that the oft-repeated claim that nearly all scientists demand that something dramatic be done to stop global warming is not true. In fact, a large and growing number of distinguished scientists and engineers do not agree that drastic actions on global warming are needed. In September, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever, a supporter of President Obama in the last election, publicly resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) with a letter that begins: “I did not renew [my membership] because I cannot live with the [APS policy] statement: ‘The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth’s physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.’ In the APS it is OK to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?” In spite of a multidecade international campaign to enforce the message that increasing amounts of the “pollutant” carbon dioxide will destroy civilization, large numbers of scientists, many very prominent, share the opinions of Dr. Giaever. And the number of scientific “heretics” is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts. Continue reading .

Evidence Does Not Support Catastrophic Man-Made Global Warming

**Written by Doug Powers In December, Nancy Pelosi was bragging about having dirt on Newt Gingrich . Shortly after that, she backed off . As evidenced by an appearance with CNN’s John King, Pelosi wants to once again play the “inside information” game and can’t contain herself : Pelosi: “He’s not going to be President of the United States. That’s not going to happen. Let me just make my prediction and stand by it, it isn’t going to happen.” King: “Why are you so sure?” Pelosi: “There is something I know. The Republicans, if they choose to nominate him that’s their prerogative. I don’t even think that’s going to happen.” Geez… did something happen on the global warming couch that we don’t yet know about? You have to watch the video to capture the full glory of Pelosi’s giddy, sophomoric attitude. She behaves like a high schooler who found the letterman jacket of the opposing school’s quarterback in the back seat of the car of the girl who beat her out for homecoming queen — and is dying to tell somebody about it just before the game. Actor and conservative commentator Ben Stein is suing an ad agency and a Japanese computer company for breach of contract. Stein alleges he was under contract by the two to appear in commercials promoting the computer company but the defendants backed out of the deal when they learned of his views on global warming. According to the lawsuit, Stein was to be paid $300,000 for fulfilling the agreement he had with Kyocera Mita America, Inc., and Seiter & Miller Advertising. From The Hollywood Reporter : Stein alleges that in Feb. 2011 his agent was called by Seiter employee Grace Jao and told that “questions had been raised by defendant Kyocera about whether Ben Stein’s views on global warming and on the environment were sufficiently conventional and politically correct for Kyocera,” according to the complaint. Stein alleges he informed the ad agency and Kyocera that he was deeply concerned about the environment but he was not certain that global warming is a man-made phenomenon. “He also told [his agent] to inform defendants that as a matter of religious belief, he believed that God, and not man, controlled the weather,” the complaint states. Days later, Kyocera allegedly withdrew its offer and hired an economics professor at the University of Maryland to appear in the commercials and, “in an astonishingly brazen misappropriation of Ben Stein’s persona, dressed him up as Stein often appeared in commercials (bow tie, glasses, sports jacket).”
