Jew-bashing weasels, especially. Like Doug “Weasel” Mataconis, at Outside the Beltway , ” On Gingrich, the Palestinians, and “Invented People” .” Doug “Weasel” Mataconis cherry picks sections from Barry Rubin to argue that Rubin made “the same point I did yesterday.” And that’s not true. Doug “Weasel” Mataconis claimed that Newt Gingich’s comments about the Palestinians were ” sinister ” and he blames Israel for the Palestinian program to exterminate the Jews, claiming that “to deny that there are a Palestinian people strikes me as guranteed to just lead to more terrorism.” Wrong. There is no “Palestinian people,” and even if we concede there is one, the existence of a Palestinian nation serves only the purpose of delegitimation of Israel. As Rubin points out : The fact that today, a Palestinian people does exist doesn’t give the Palestinians a right to invent history, of course. ABC News didn’t point out that they regularly claim a history of two thousand years or more. And Golda Meir was pointing to the fact that the dominant politics of the Palestinian movement certainly as late as 1945 was a pan-Arab nationalist one. And despite Gingrich’s decisive confirmation of his initial comments, Doug “Weasel” Mataconis doubles-down in his attacks, alleging that : As I said yesterday, imagine if Gingrich had made these statements as President. The outrage would have been amplified a thousand fold, and any hope that the United States would be able to serve any useful purpose in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would be out the window for the foreseeable future… What Doug “Weasel” Mataconis does not do is cite Gingrich’s full statements, which reaffirms his initial point about an “invented” Palestinian nation. From the transcript : GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: 22:04:00:00 — Speaker Gingrich, as I’ve said, this has caused quite a reaction in– in the Middle East. The chief Palestinian negotiator, Sa– Saeb Erekat, said, “Mark my words: These statements of Gingrich will be the ammunition and weapons of the bin Ladens and the extremists for a long, long time.” SPEAKER NEWT GINGRICH: 22:04:13:00 — How would he know the difference? Look from historic, George, simply. Is– is what I said factually correct? Yes. Is it historically true? Yes. Are we in a situation where every day, rockets are fired into Israel while the United States, the current administration, tries to pressure the Israelis into a peace process? 22:04:33:00 — Hamas does not admit the– the right of Israel to exist, and says publicly, “Not a single Jew will remain.” The Palestinian Authority ambassador to India said last month, “There is no difference between Fatah and Hamas. We both agree Israel has no right to exist.” 22:04:50:00 — Somebody oughta have the courage to tell the truth: These people are terrorists. They teach terrorism in their schools. They have textbooks that say, “If there are 13 Jews and nine Jews are killed, how many Jews are left?” We pay for those textbooks through our aid money. It’s fundamentally– time for somebody to have the guts to stand up and say, “Enough lying about the Middle East.” Yes, folks should stop lying, especially Doug “Weasel” Mataconis, the paleocon Israel-basher who couldn’t argue his way out of a paper bag. As Pamela said yesterday , a point to which Doug “Weasel” Mataconis attempts to laugh off in his maniacal anti-Israel dementia: The Palestinian nation was invented as a tool of the jihad against Israel. By Steve Maggi Nearly $100 billion. That’s what High Speed Rail is now going to cost California taxpayers – more than double the costs initially promised by the proponents of Prop 1A, which contained the initial taxpayer financing for the project. 2033. That’s when the HSR project is now expected to be completed –

I don’t know if he is electable or not, but I know I like what he has to say. I’ve been looking at the candidates and my initial instinct has swayed toward Herman Cain from the begining. I am hopeful he isn’t just the “flavor of the week”, and he sticks in there.

I felt so hollow when I first heard the news, and I know that the war’s been going on so long now that for a lot people, beyond the initial sadness, there probably wasn’t a whole lot of reflection about the sacrifices. So, this is something honorable: ” One-Man Vigil for the … Troops Killed Saturday .”

At NYT , ” At Least 80 Are Dead in Norway Shooting .” And here’s Judy Woodruff’s report from this evening’s PBS NewsHour. Finn Hagensen, in Oslo, indicates that the death toll could top 100 from the initial bomb attack in Oslo: And at WSJ , ” Terror in Oslo “: At our first deadline reports indicated that the attacks were the work of a jihadist group. Later in the evening evidence emerged that a suspect in the shooting attack on a youth camp was an ethnic Norwegian with no previously known ties to Islamist groups. Coordinated terrorist attacks are an al Qaeda signature. But copycats with different agendas are surely capable of duplicating its methods. Whatever the case, the attacks demonstrate that Norway is no more immune than any other country to such atrocities, no matter what its foreign or domestic policies may be. If this does prove to be the work of Islamists, it will be noted that neither Norway’s opposition to the war in Iraq nor its considerable financial and political support for the Palestinians spared it from attack. In its hour of grief, we’re confident that Norway, like other free societies beset by terror, will respond with conviction, courage and resilience.

What President Obama failed to address before AIPAC is probably the most disturbing aspect of his initial Middle East speech.

Remember little Jesse Koczon –the New Jersey infant who was all in a tizzy because he wanted to be governor, but was too small? The Blaze reported his story last week. Well, days after sending a sweet tweet message to Jesse, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie named the little guy honorary governor for the day: Here is the initial video of Jesse, where he says–with, shall we say, animation–that he wants to be the governor of New Jersey (and as a bonus, he does an Arnold Schwarzenegger impression!): You can read the funny tweet Christie sent Jesse in response here : ”Don’t worry Jesse, people gave plenty of reasons why I couldn’t be Governor, though being too small wasn’t one of them.” Only one problem: Jesse wants to raise property taxes. Maybe Gov. Christie can teach Jesse a thing or two about fiscal matters before he takes Trenton by storm when he’s actually of age.
