And this isn't your ordinary kind of blowback. Adelson's being threatened. See Legal Insurrection, " Sounds like John Sununu threatened Sheldon Adelson ": Seeing John Sununu in the news again is some kind of weird timewarp, but I don't recall him playing the heavy like this. He definitely implies some payback against those making attacks against Romney --- you know, your finance capital at Wall Street's gonna dry up pretty quick if you don't knock it off. Here's William's comment from the post : The message is clear. Anyone attacks Romney on Bain is going to get payback from Wall Street. When that message is conveyed by the leading candidate’s spokesman and confidant, it is a lot more than a casual observation. And if Sununu is so bold on television, you can only imagine what is going on behind the scenes from Romney supporters in the financial community. No doubt. And here's this at the Las Vegas Sun , " Sheldon Adelson distancing himself from documentary attacking Mitt Romney ." (Via Memeorandum .) And what's worse is that "King of Bain" is a really lousy documentary, full of distortions and omissions, pretty typical of the kind of smears you'd see from the Obama-progresssives. See: " Four Pinocchios for ‘King of Bain’ ." See also The Other McCain, " Rick Santorum Distances Himself From Newt’s Lefty ‘Hit Job’ on Mitt Romney ."

**Written by Doug Powers Rick Perry, along with Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum all failed to qualify to appear on the ballot for the Virgina primary on March 6th. It looks like Perry will be the first to offer a legal challenge : Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign announced Tuesday it will file a lawsuit in an attempt to get on the ballot for Virginia’s Republican presidential primary. Perry failed to qualify for the ballot after the Republican Party of Virginia said his campaign had not filed the required 10,000 signatures. “Virginia ballot access rules are among the most onerous and are particularly problematic in a multi-candidate election,” Perry campaign communications director Ray Sullivan said in a statement published by National Journal. In the statement announcing the legal challenge, Perry’s campaign said only 119,034 Virginians voted in the 2008 Republican primary, making the requirement of 10,000 signatures “unrealistic and onerous.” Meanwhile, after learning he didn’t qualify for the VA primary ballot, Newt Gingrich pledged an aggressive write-in campaign , but that’s probably not going to happen : When a reporter noted that state law prohibits write-in votes in primaries, Gingrich said: “There’s time for them to change it. If something’s wrong, they ought to fix it.” That appears unlikely this year, even if lawmakers were so inclined. Section 24.612 of the Virginia State Code says: “The electoral board shall make printed ballots available for absentee voting not later than 45 days prior to any election.” That means absentee ballots must be mailed to voters – such as Virginians serving in the military — no later than Jan. 21. The legislature does not convene until Jan. 11. To make the change, lawmakers would have to pass emergency legislation — a bill that goes into effect immediately upon the governor’s signature, rather than on the customary enactment date of July 1. Emergency legislation requires a supermajority. Eighty of the 100 members of the House of Delegates and 32 of the 40 state senators would have to vote to change the law. As for Gingrich’s proposed change, “I’d say it’s pretty tough at this point,” House Speaker William J. Howell, R-Stafford, said Monday in a phone interview. So, lawsuits all around then? However, I assume the logistical complications alone would render any legal ruling even in a candidate’s favor irrelevant this time around. **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

At Wall Street Journal, "Assad Regime Blames al Qaeda for Twin Blasts in Damascus, Escalating Conflict" (via Google ): Syria's government blamed al Qaeda for two suicide bomb attacks that rocked Damascus on Friday morning, opening a dangerous phase in the Syrian conflict just one day after an Arab League advance mission arrived in the country under a plan to resolve the spiraling crisis. "Initial investigations point to al Qaeda," read headlines on Syrian television. No group claimed responsibility for the attacks. But the government's claim set off waves of speculation among activists and observers over what group could be capable of spectacular strikes on state-security offices at the heart of the capital—Syria's first reported suicide bombings in a decade. Some security experts said al Qaeda or other insurgents could conceivably be responsible. Others joined Syrian activists in blaming the government itself for staging the attacks, a claim impossible to verify. But many pointed out that the government's claim, grounded or not, could provide cover to mount further crackdowns against the nine-month uprising against President Bashar al-Assad. The two attacks came within minutes of each other. They killed 44 people—mostly civilians, but also security officers—and injured 166, Syrian state media reported. State television broadcast images of smoke and bloodied debris at the scene, to sounds of sirens. Men were shown dragging a charred torso into an ambulance. The road was piled with bodies wrapped in sheets and blankets. And see Legal Insurrection, " Will car bombings save Assad? "
