You may have heard Rush talking about this piece this morning: Jeffrey Lord over at The American Spectator takes former Reagan administration official Elliott Abrams to task for Abrams’ NRO piece blasting Newt’s “real” attitude toward Reagan. Abrams’ piece went viral and caused serious heartburn for many in the Newt camp. One problem, according to Lord: Abrams’ piece ain’t true. I’m sorry to say, what appears to be going on here is that Elliott Abrams, a considerably admirable public servant and a very smart guy, has been swept up in the GOP Establishment’s Romney frothings over the rise of Newt Gingrich in the Republican primaries. He is even being accused of trolling for a job in a Romney administration. No way!!!! Really???? What else can possibly explain a piece like the one Abrams penned on a day when Gingrich was being of a mysterious sudden targeted in one hit piece after another for his ties to Reagan? The pieces invariably following the Romney line that Newt had some version of nothing to do with Reagan. A piece like the one Abrams wrote depends for its success in garnering headlines — which it did — by assuming no one will bother to get into the weeds and do the homework. Usually a safe assumption when dealing with the mainstream media, particularly a mainstream media that, as one with Establishment Republicans, hates Newt Gingrich. Using research from people who were major players at the time, Lord puts together a good defense of Newt and lays out a pretty damning case against Abrams’ claims, a man who has had a pretty respectable record. Read the whole thing and decide for yourself.

Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter is exiting the GOP presidential race today with fanfare similar to entrance — that is to say, not much : McCotter is a conservative who was first elected to Congress in 2002. His presidential bid gained little traction after entering the contest in July.  He failed to gain enough support to be included in Republican debates and finished last in a field of 11 Republicans in the Iowa straw poll in August. McCotter has pushed for reforms to Social Security and a harder line with China during his campaign. The conservative Republican told the Detroit News that he will throw his support behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney: McCotter said he would back Romney after the Massachusetts governor made it clear he wouldn’t seek a federal health care overhaul like the one Massachusetts adopted when he was governor. “Especially with his business background and in a stagnant economy, he may be the most electable,” McCotter said. He likes Romney rival Texas Gov. Rick Perry, but said the country isn’t ready for another Texas president so soon after President George W. Bush. “He may be a vice presidential nominee,” McCotter said.

Republicans must not fall for a short-term “deal of the century” like the one that cost Bush 41 the presidency.

At London’s Daily Mail , ” How unlucky can you get! Man survives being hit by lightning TWICE in remarkable CCTV footage “: Looks pretty real, but check MSNBC, ” Lightning striking twice? Maybe not even once “: The first sign that the video might be fake, according to Vladimir Rakov, electrical engineer and co-director of the University of Florida Lightning Research Group, is that people almost never survive direct lightning strikes like the one shown in the video. “The chance of survival in the case of a direct strike is essentially zero,” Rakov told Life’s Little Mysteries. That’s because lightning bolts emanating from storm clouds convey a gigajoule of energy, he explained — which is about enough to melt a ton of steel. The vast majority of the 240,000 people who survive lightning strikes worldwide each year do not actually get hit directly. “They are struck by ‘side flashes,’” Rakov said. “Lightning might strike a building near them, for example, and there’s a side flash that jumps to them carrying a small fraction of the original lightning bolt’s energy. In that case, they can survive and even walk away.”

Hoax? Viral Video Claims Dude Survives Lightning Strike — Twice!

This shot is burning up the web tonight, but I question it’s authenticity.

Uh-oh.

Is it possible that someone actually captured a Tomahawk missile just before it made impact? Or is this another Photoshopped image like the one of the shark narrowly missing a British Navy diver climbing into a helicopter? This one was debunked . Back to the bomb. . . While close up investigation reveals similar grain all around the image, I do have my doubts about the cruise missile shot.  If it were real, you might expect there to be some shots of the moments after, or even some postings on reliable news sites. None have surfaced.

In praising Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., and this week’s congressional hearing which examined the radicalization of American Muslims, former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani suggested that such an investigation should’ve happened three years ago. “Maybe there wouldn’t have been an attack like the one at Ft. Hood if we’d have had a hearing like this,” Guiliani told FNC’s Sean Hannity: Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com
