Gateway Pundit has the front-page screen-cap from the Media Matter hate hole, ” Today’s American Hero Spotlight Goes to Dana Loesch: “I’d Drop Trou and Do it Too” .” (Via Memeorandum .) CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (The Blaze/AP) — The Marine Corps says two crew members have been killed in a helicopter crash in a training area at Camp Pendleton in Southern California. A Marine statement says an AH-1 Cobra belonging to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing went down at about 1 p.m. Monday. The statement says the two personnel aboard were pronounced dead by emergency responders. A fire is burning at the site in the southeast corner of the base, near the community of Fallbrook, and firefighters are working to contain it. This is a breaking story. Please check back for updates.

I was at lunch today and watched President Obama award the medal to Cpl. Dakota Meyer. At Los Angeles Times , ” Marine is awarded rare Medal of Honor at White House “: The desperate call crackled over the radio in predawn darkness: A small team of American and Afghan troops was pinned down in a remote village under withering fire from three sides. A young lieutenant was begging for artillery or air support. Without it, he yelled, “we are going to die out here.” Can’t be done, came the reply. It might kill civilians. Less than a mile away, Marine Cpl. Dakota L. Meyer heard the radio exchange in agony. His buddies were dying, yet Meyer was under orders to stay where he was. Four times he requested permission to go to their aid, and four times he was refused. After two hours, Meyer decided to defy his superiors. The powerfully built 21-year-old with a soft Kentucky drawl climbed into the turret of a gun truck mounted with a .50-caliber machine gun and, with another Marine driving, raced toward the battle. On Thursday, Meyer was at the White House to receive the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, for saving the lives of 36 combatants — 13 Americans and 23 Afghans — and personally killing at least eight Taliban fighters that day, Sept. 8, 2009. He is the first living Marine to receive the award since the Vietnam War. Meyer, now 23, stood at attention in dress uniform as President Obama recounted what happened in the village of Ganjigal in Afghanistan’s Kunar province. Added: Bing West’s essay, ” The Afghan Rescue Mission Behind Today’s Medal of Honor .”

Air Force One landed in Newark, NJ and the President, NJ Gov Christie, and other state legislators climbed into a Marine Helicopter and flew over the areas ravaged by Irene’s rain. Because of this visit, planes all across the country were placed on long delays and tens of thousands of travelers were forced to sit and wait because the airspace over New Jersey was under a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR). Newark’s Liberty Airport ranks among the busiest travel hubs in the country, unless you happened to be trying to get in or out of there today, while President Obama was in town surveying the damage done by floodwaters from Hurricane Irene. Every time the president visits an airport, TFRs must be in place and with good reason. Safety is vital and you want the leader of the country to be able to get in an out of an airport without delay. However, the White House might be wise to consider how often this president uses Air Force One and the Marine One helicopters and the rippling effect that has on air travel. How much air travel could President Obama be taking? CBS’ Mark Knoller is keeping track of the President’s time on Air Force One and Marine One. You might be surprised to read the numbers. From a tweet posted on Friday (before the trips taken this weekend): Based on Knoller’s numbers, as of today President Obama will have flown on Marine One over 500 times and close to 410 flights on Air Force One. Of course Presidents MUST visit disaster areas and show concern for those who lost family members, or homes, cars, etc. But you also must question the wisdom and timing of this trip. To shut down one the the country’s busiest airports in the middle of the Labor Day weekend, will no doubt be remembered by all those who spent most of the day waiting in another city, held up, not any bad weather, just by bad timing.

AP – In a dramatic reversal, President Barack Obama on Friday scrubbed a clean-air regulation that aimed to reduce health-threatening smog, yielding to bitterly protesting businesses and congressional Republicans who complained the rule would kill jobs in America’s ailing economy.
