The GOP’s Mandate Temptation

On January 30, 2012, in Health Care, Uncategorized, by DusenberyGarratt

Why have so many conservatives and Republicans endorsed, or praised, an individual mandate for health care in the past? Today Rush Limbaugh hit upon it : RUSH: Now this mandate business. This has gotten out of hand, too, ‘cause it’s out there now that Newt supported the individual mandate as recently as 2009. It’s being reported that Newt supported Obamacare, the individual mandate and Obamacare in 2009. Some people are saying, “Well, he couldn’t have done that because Obamacare didn’t exist in 2009. It hadn’t been written yet.” That’s a bit of a stretch. The fact of the matter is that the Heritage Foundation at first (and Newt and Romney) are all on record, at some point in their careers, as supporting the individual mandate which is what the lawsuit against Obamacare is about. But of the three, only Romney has actually enacted it into law, supported it to the point that he’s put it into law. Keep reading this post . . .

Over on RealClearPolitics , they have video of Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post bringing up the Santorums’ deceased child and labeling the family’s handling of the matter “very weird.” “He’s not a little weird, he’s really weird,” Robinson said of Santorum. “And some of his positions that he has taken are just so weird that I think that some Republicans are off-put. Not everybody is not going to be down, for example, with the story of how he and his wife handled the stillborn child. It was a body that they took home to kind of sleep with it, introduce it to the rest of the family. It’s a very weird story.” Keep reading this post . . .

John Edwards says he’s sick

On December 24, 2011, in Uncategorized, by

We already knew John Edwards is sick. But he’s asking that his trial, scheduled to begin Jan. 30, be delayed to cope with an illness. Edwards’ defense team filed a motion for the delay: “The Defendant has a medical issue … that will prevent a trial of this matter during the January 2012 Criminal Term,” the motion says, according to the New York Daily News. “The failure to grant a continuance would be likely to result in a miscarriage of justice.” The illness has not been publicly disclosed. Twice already Edwards has asked that the trial be delayed. It was each time. Edwards is charged with six counts of campaign finance violations. He allegedly illegally used campaign donations to help his pregnant mistress Rielle Hunter during his run in the 2008 presidential election.

Latest News of Obamacare’s Forthcoming Death Panels

When Sarah Palin made the announcement she wouldn’t be running for president back in October, she should have thought twice about where she was making the announcement. She did it on Mark Levin ‘s radio show for free, rather than on Fox News, the company that pays her to talk. After she made the announcement, Fox executive vice-president Bill Shine spoke with Palin’s people to let them know that Fox News CEO Roger Ailes wasn’t happy, according to “New York” magazine: Shine was deputized to handle the matter. He spoke with Palin’s agent, Bob Barnett , and told him that Ailes was furious with Palin’s move and that she was at risk of being “benched.” Fox still had to pay her, but they didn’t have to give her airtime. Barnett spoke with Palin and told her about the problem. After she apologized, he called Shine back and told him that Palin recognized the misstep.

My wife and I both looked at each other and said, “Tears for Fears?” That was really cool. I had no clue it was a Henley cover. I’m not seeing a review from the Harrah’s gig, but the O.C. Register reports on Henley’s concert the previous weekend, from the Greet Theater: ” Don Henley tosses surprises into Greek set .” And the playlist: Main set : I Put a Spell on You / Dirty Laundry / Everybody’s Famous / Sunset Grill / Everything Is Different Now / New York Minute / The Last Worthless Evening / One of These Nights / It Don’t Matter to the Sun / The End of the Innocence / Everybody Wants to Rule the World / The Heart of the Matter / Guilty / You Don’t Have to Believe Me / Funky Stuff / I’ve Been Loving You Too Long / The Boys of Summer / All She Wants to Do Is Dance / Life in the Fast Lane First encore : Hotel California / Desperado Second encore : I Will Not Go Quietly / The Long Run Henley opened with “Dirty Laundry” at Rincon, and he did just the first encore. The band was tight and Henley’s mellow. The concert was outside at the Sky Theater, and we had good seats. They played “One of These Nights.” Lead guitarist Steuart Smith tours with both The Eagles and Don Henley. He’s seen here at the clip:
