AURORA, Ky. (The Blaze/AP) — On Thursday, a cargo ship carrying rocket parts stuck and partially collapsed a Kentucky bridge. But less than 24 hours later, Kentucky’s governor is already promising speedy work to begin replacing the structure that sees nearly 3,000 cars pass over it a day. Amazingly, there are no reported injuries, but one man driving Thursday evening had quite the shock when he had to slam on his brakes seeing a section missing ahead of him. “All of a sudden I see the road’s gone and I hit the brakes,” said Parker, who lives in Cadiz. “It got close.” Parker said he stopped his pickup within five feet of the missing section. He said he didn’t feel the vessel strike the bridge but “felt the bridge was kind of weak.” Two spans of the Eggner Ferry Bridge at US 68 and Kentucky 80 were destroyed Thursday night by the Delta Mariner, which was too tall to pass beneath the structure. No injuries were reported on the bridge or in the boat, which was carrying rocket components from Decatur, Ala., to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Here is a local news report: The ship was traveling on the Tennessee River on its typical route to Florida’s Atlantic coast when it hit the aging steel bridge, which was built in the 1930s and handles about 2,800 vehicles a day. Check out this arial footage of the ship with bridge pieces still attached to it: The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the collision. And it’s too early to speculate on exactly what caused the wreck until that probe is done, said Sam Sacco, a spokesman for ship owner and operator Foss Marine. Sacco said the boat was not severely damaged, and some of the crew remained on the ship Friday afternoon to make sure the cargo is safe. Gov. Steve Beshear on Friday said an immediate review of options to restore the bridge would take place. “We’ll turn our attention to a full inspection of the bridge and determine what steps we can take next to speed up the replacement of that important artery,” Beshear said.

The 312-foot Delta Mariner hauls rocket parts for the Delta and Atlas systems to launch stations in Florida and California, according to a statement from United Launch Alliance, which builds the rocket parts in Alabama. The cargo was not damaged in the collision with the bridge, the company said. The rocket parts are used by the Air Force, NASA and private companies to send satellites into space, said Jessica Frye, a spokeswoman with United Launch Alliance. Sacco said the ship’s typical route to Florida takes it along the Tennessee and Ohio Rivers, then onto the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico and on to Florida’s east coast. Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson and Transportation Cabinet Secretary Mike Hancock were visiting the crash area Friday, officials said. Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd told The Paducah Sun he believes most of the navigational lights were functioning on the bridge at the time of the impact. The bridge opened in 1932, connecting Trigg County and Marshall County at the western entrance to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. The transportation cabinet said the bridge was in the process of being replaced, and preconstruction work began months ago.

UNITED NATIONS (The Blaze/AP) — When mailroom workers at the United Nations decided to search a white bag with a suspicious looking U.N. logo last week, they probably never expected to find 16 kilograms of cocaine (about 35 pounds) hidden in books inside. Paul Browne, the New York Police Department’s chief spokesman, said the drug was in a white bag evidently masquerading as a diplomatic pouch that raised suspicions when it was being scanned because it was stamped with what looked like a poorly concocted version of the U.N. logo. Browne said there was no name or address on the shipment sent from Mexico City through Cincinnati. U.N. security officials called the NYPD and Drug Enforcement Administration, which confirmed the substance inside the shipment intercepted Jan. 16 was cocaine, the police spokesman said. Watch this Fox Insider report: Watch the latest video at video.insider.foxnews.com U.N. undersecretary-general for safety and security Gregory B. Starr told reporters Thursday evening that “there is nothing to indicate that this had anything to do with anybody at the United Nations.” Starr said the drug was actually stashed in two bags that were stamped with the sky-blue U.N. logo of a world map in an apparent effort to masquerade as diplomatic pouches, which are not supposed to be inspected. Inside the bag, the drug was hidden in hollowed-out notebooks, he added. The U.N. official showed journalists a photograph of the bags that were seized, and compared them with a real diplomatic pouch used by the U.N., which is somewhat larger and made of a different material. “This did not come from a United Nations facility,” Starr said of the shipment. “It was not, in my opinion, not intended to go to a United Nations facility.”

She’s a progressive La Raza racist. At The Blaze, ” Former La Raza VP Named White House Domestic Policy Director .” And from Aaron Klein, ” Look who Obama’s new czar is tied to… Cecilia Munoz previously worked with infamous list “: Prior to her appointment yesterday as the next director of President Obama’s Domestic Policy Council, longtime immigration reform advocate Cecilia Muñoz served on the board of George Soros’ Open Society Institute. Muñoz also chaired the board of directors of the Center for Community Change, or CCC, a Soros-funded community organizing initiative whose board boasts activists from ACORN, MoveOn.org as well as other notorious radical groups. Muñoz is currently serving as the head of the White House office of intergovernmental affairs. She most recently worked for the National Council of la Raza, an open-borders group that lobbies for mass immigration and amnesty for illegal aliens. The official White House statement announcing her new appointment yesterday noted Muñoz’s previous work for both the CCC and Soros’ Institute. “Ms. Muñoz is the former Chair of the Board of Center for Community Change, and served on the U.S. Programs Board of the Open Society Institute,” the statement read. “Over the past three years, Cecilia has been a trusted advisor who has demonstrated sound judgment day in and day out,” Obama in the press release. “Cecilia has done an extraordinary job working on behalf of middle class families, and I’m confident she’ll bring the same unwavering dedication to her new position.” Muñoz’s new duties will include coordinating the policy-making process and supervise the execution of domestic policy in the White House. While the White House release documented Muñoz’s work for the CCC, the statement did not further define the CCC, which recruits and trains activists to spearhead “political issue campaigns” while advocating for more citizen involvement in community organizations. And at Knuckledraggin’ : And La Raza is involved in actively seeking reconquista. That and flat-out open borders, among other things. I swear to God above, that fucking socialist son of a bitch isn’t happy just letting them in, now he wants to give our Nation to the Mexicans and let them turn it into the shithole Mexico is. The 2012 primary for the Republican presidential nomination has seen million dollar negative ad campaigns flood the airwaves to cripple major candidates and powerful super-PACS continue to grow thanks to unlimited and anonymous contributions. These developments has led some in taking a second look at the legality of new forces unleashed and in play during this Republican primary and soon general election, that have put America on pace for its most costly election ever. Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission  has been the most talked about Supreme Court decision in recent memory. A landmark decision in regards to campaign finance law, the court ruled 5-4 that political spending is a form of protected speech under the First Amendment, and that the government may not keep corporations or unions from spending money to support or denounce individual candidates in elections. While corporations or unions may not give money directly to campaigns, the decision ruled that such groups may seek to persuade the public through other means, including ads. The current status of campaign finance law came to fruition when the  Citizens United decision led to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals March 2010 decision on Speechnow.org v. Federal Election Commission,  which ruled that the government may not limit donations to groups established to make independent political expenditures. Immediately following and since the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United , critics and supporters of the decision have been found within all political parties, and several of the most influential voices in American government have been extremely vocal in their opinions. Notably, cameras caught Justice Samuel Alito provoke the ire of President Barack Obama on the floor of congress during the State of the Union when Alito appeared to mouth the words “not true” after the president criticized the court’s decision. Supporters of the decision say that it upheld the First Amendment rights of individuals acting through corporations and labor unions to participate in the political process, striking down regulations restricting political speech. Critics argue that the decision has enabled our political system to be corrupted by the influence of corporate money in elections, and call for an amendment to the Constitution. Two years later we are seeing the results of Citizens United for the first time during a presidential election. From December 1 until the Iowa caucuses on January 3,  45 percent of all ads airing in Iowa were directed against Newt Gingrich, including $3.4 million from Mitt Romney’s super PAC Restoring our Future.  Following a disappointing fourth place finish in Iowa and a $5 million contribution from one man,  a visibly bitter Newt Gingrich returned the favor, stumping on rhetoric portrayed in ads financed by his super PAC attacking Romney’s record as CEO of the private equity firm Bain Capital. Andrew Rosenthal of The New York Times sums up the hypocrisy and unintended consequences of the Citizens United -enabled battle royal between the two candidates and their super PACs following the release of a trailer for “The King of Bain:” “Many things come to mind about this infomercial, but here are two of them. The first is that the Winning Our Future PAC is flush with $5 million from the Las Vegas billionaire Sheldon Adelson, a practitioner of predatory capitalism if ever there was one. (What’s more rapacious than a casino?) The second is that it’s a gift to the Democrats, who can use this line of attack in the coming months—and not just against Mr. Romney. They can use it to boost the concept of regulation, necessary to protect workers like the ones in the ad. So here’s the Citizens-United fallout headline: Casino magnate attacks unethical capitalism to help a pal on the right, helps the left.” The product of  Citizens United, s uper PACs, spent $90 million in 2010. The Atlantic notes that the amounts super PACs will spend this year will be many multiples of that, as $32 million has already been raised. After seeing the effect of the Gingrich v Romney super PAC war on the GOP primary thus far, and knowing that President Obama’s super PAC Priorities USA Action has already raised  $3,161,535 in the 2012 cycle, what are your opinions on Citizens United?
