Actress Susan Sarandon was an outspoken activist at anti-war rallies running into the U.S’s invasion of Iraq. Now she’s raging at the “Day(s) of Rage” on Wall Street, but some protestors are asking “Susan, who?” The Daily News reports : “Who is she?” some of the young agitators asked each other as the Oscar-winning actress gave their cause a little star power. “I’m just here to be educated,” the “Bull Durham” star told reporters and protesters in Zuccotti Park.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (The Blaze/AP) — Actress Reese Witherspoon was struck by a car while jogging near Los Angeles on Wednesday morning and suffered minor injuries. Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis says the Oscar-winning actress was hit by a car driven by an 84-year-old woman. Witherspoon was jogging in an unmarked crosswalk in Santa Monica when the driver struck her at about 20 mph. The 35-year-old actress was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Rent-control laws require New York City landlords to offer some of their apartments at lower prices than they could get if – in a perfect world – the politicians didn’t meddle with the free market. This is done in the name of helping out the little guy and ensuring that the politicians get that little guy’s vote in the next election. According to this piece on Newser, one “little guy” is a girl. And that girl is Faye freaking Dunaway. She’s been leasing a rent-controlled one-bedroom walk up in New York City’s posh Upper East Side. The rent? $1,048. If you don’t live here that might sound expensive but trust me, anyone who lives here is thinking OMG that’s awesome . It seems to me unfair that an Oscar-winning actress with a storied career – whose mailbox is crammed full of film residual checks on any given day – is able to obtain a discount on prime real estate at the expense of others. More irksome: Does anyone on this planet actually believe Faye freaking Dunaway lives in a one-bedroom walk-up? Didn’t think so. Neither does her landlord, who claims in a lawsuit that the star actually lives in California and has been letting her son use the apartment. Doing so is in violation of the stupid rent control laws that allow a rich movie star to rent an apartment at below-market rates. Alas, she’s not the only high-profile, not-poor person to take advantage of these laws. That list includes former New York mayor Ed Koch, singers Carly Simon and Cyndi Lauper, actress Mia Farrow and many others. Frankly it’s all a bunch of codswallop , which is my new favorite word.

Ouch : Despite a report from ‘The Washington Post,’ director’s publicist, Mavin Levy, says Spielberg will continue to “direct actors, not political figures.” Steven Spielberg’s spokesman,Marvin Levy, has responded to a Dec. 22 Washington Post report that the Oscar-winning director may soon advise Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on a planned political PR campaign. Levy denied his client’s involvement in a press statement, saying: “Today’s story regarding Nancy Pelosi made a reference to Steven Spielberg that requires a response. I can say as a long-time spokesman for Steven that he has made it his career to direct actors, not political figures.”

I've had a few readers in Maine write in, raving about GOP gubernatorial candidate Paul LePage , saying his life story sounds like Oscar-winning movie material. Today, Public Policy Polling puts him ahead : “Republican Paul LePage leads Democrat Libby Mitchell 43-29 in PPP's first look at the race with independent Eliot Cutler pulling 11%.” Now the Republican Governors Association is putting up an ad, touting him: Jim Geraghty
