Sharron Angle has dropped out of the special U.S. House race in Nevada’s 2nd congressional district. She says she may consider another run for the seat or another office in the future. At this point, the “candidacy” of all of the Republicans wishing to represent this district is somewhat moot, as the nominee will be selected by the state GOP’s central committee , although the court ruling that threw out the rules from the Nevada secretary of state and set up these rules is certain to be challenged in the Nevada Supreme Court. Perhaps an early indicator that Angle’s bid was unlikely to go the distance was that her web site had no updates from the initial announcement of the candidacy. Race summary here .

No Special-Election Bid for Sharron Angle After All

Are you ready for Sharron Angle for Congress? Because here she comes! Under the current district lines, Nevada's 2nd district is the most GOP-leaning in the state. However, the district lines will almost certainly change, as Nevada is gaining a congressional seat starting in 2012. Jim Geraghty

This Nevada Primary Challenge Might Raise Some Hell-er

Help us, Congressman Heller . You're our only hope… to avoid risking a Senate seat on a deeply flawed incumbent Republican in a state certain to get enormous attention in the presidential race! According to the Las Vegas Sun , Rep. Dean Heller strongly hinted that he'll make a primary challenge against Sen. John Ensign by releasing a poll showing him leaing a hypothetical matchup among Nevada Republicans, 53 percent to 38 percent. When releasing the poll, Heller issued a statement saying he was taking a “serious look” at a Senate bid. (And with numbers like that, why not?) Heller is one of the few Republicans elected to the House of Representatives in 2006, a former stockbroker, two-term member of the Nevada House and three-term Secretary of State. In 2006, one of the Republicans he faced in the House primary was… Sharron Angle, a name familiar to those who followed last year's Senate race. He beat her by 421 votes. In the R+5 District, Heller had President George W. Bush campaign for him twice and he won, 50 percent to 45 percent. He won 63 percent of the vote in 2010. His lifetime ACU rating is 89 out of 100. Eric Fuller, a 63-year-old disabled veteran, was a proud supporter of Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., and was at the supermarket in Tucson last Saturday to meet the congresswoman. After being shot in the knee, Fuller spoke to progressive syndicated Democracy Now! to blame Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and other conservatives for Saturday’s shooting rampage. “It looks like Palin, Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target,” Fuller said, claiming conservatives were to blame for the actions of alleged schizophrenic Jared Lee Loughner. “Their wish for Second Amendment activism has been fulfilled.” Fuller went on to claim House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, subscribes to “lunatic fringe anarchism.” Fuller’s comments echoed those of Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik who immediately suggested Angle and Palin were partially to blame for the shooting massacre which left six dead and many others injured, including Congresswoman Giffords. “When you have people like Sharron Angle, in Las Vegas, running against Harry Reid, making outrageous statements such as ‘We may need to resort to taking the second amendment into certain cases,’ and for people like Sarah Palin to say ‘We have people like Gabby Giffords in our cross-hairs,’ I think those statements are totally irresponsible and they’re not without consequences,” Dupnik said. “And we are seeing them here.”

Former Senate candidate and Nevada state legislator Sharron Angle issued a statement, also posted to her Facebook page : “My thoughts and prayers go out to all those suffering from the horrible act of violence in Arizona. I pray for the families of those lost and injured to receive all the support they need at this difficult hour.” Sharron Angle has been criticized for her strong support of constitutional rights, especially the Second Amendment. She spoke from California where she is caring for her 88 year old father, “I condemn all acts of violence. The despicable act in Tucson is a

“I understand the idea that, even if Loughner had no idea who Sharron Angle is and even if he never saw Palin’s infamous cross-hairs map, it still makes sense to encourage political leaders to ditch violent rhetoric,” writes Salon news editor Steve Kornacki at the site's War Room blog . Lamar Smith, writing in the Washington Post : The conventional wisdom has already settled like a blanket over Washington. Allegedly, Hispanics flocked to the polls to punish Republicans for the Arizona immigration law. They “saved” the Senate for Democrats. And on and on. The conventional wisdom, however, is wrong. The 2010 election actually paints a very bright picture of the Republican Party's relations with this country's growing Hispanic population. Exit polls reported by CNN
