Gingrich will try to reset campaign at CPAC

Newt Gingrich has been suggesting for some time that other Republican presidential primary opponents should drop out of the race so he can consolidate support as the anti-Romney candidate. Texas Governor Rick Perry dropped out and gave Gingrich his endorsement  just as the former Speaker was picking up steam before his South Carolina GOP primary win, and Gingrich once again suggested that Rick Santorum step aside in the days leading up to the Florida GOP primary. Santorum has stood his ground, and is now fighting back. Following Gingrich’s distant second place finish to Mitt Romney in Florida’s GOP primary Tuesday, a state where Santorum secured 13 percent of the vote after applying considerably less time and resources, the Pennsylvania senator has responded that Newt is the one who should back down. “If you don’t want Mitt Romney, obviously Newt Gingrich doesn’t have what it takes to win this,” Santorum told reporters from Las Vegas Tuesday night as Florida’s results projected Gingrich far behind Romney. “Let’s give someone else a shot.” “In Florida, Newt Gingrich had his opportunity,” POLITICO reports Santorum told supporters Tuesday. “He said, ‘I’m going to be the conservative alternative.’ … It didn’t work. He became the issue. We can’t allow our nominee to be the issue in the campaign.” Santorum’s attack against Gingirch went a step further Wednesday, when his campaign began airing a new Television ad in Nevada which aligns the former Speaker with President Obama and Rep. Nancy Pelosi. The National Journal’s Tim Alberta  writes that the Santorum campaign noticeably spares the newly invigorated Republican front-runner Mitt Romney: “That Santorum would spare Romney from such an effective, well-orchestrated attack is puzzling. After all, Romney  has  been criticized for previously supporting these policies — cap and trade, amnesty, insurance mandates and bailouts — at various points during his two presidential campaigns. Indeed, some of those attacks have been leveled by Santorum himself. So why did the former Pennsylvania senator, who was forceful last week in tying Obama’s policies to Romney and Gingrich, choose not to kill two birds with one stone in this major post-Florida media buy? In short, because Santorum’s most pressing priority isn’t taking down Romney — it’s emerging as the consensus conservative alternative to him. And in order to do that, Santorum must first displace Gingrich — both in the polls and in the media narrative — as Romney’s main rival.” The Santorum strategy and Alberta’s analysis further exemplifies what has always been the overall rider of the 2012 GOP primary: there are two candidates; Romney and whoever claims the Anti-Romney mantel.

Biden Prediction: Dems Will Retake House

On January 28, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Barry Munz

**Written by Doug Powers Sheriff Joe Biden may only half-heartedly believe what he’s saying here. It’s just that word around Capitol Hill is that if you help convince Nancy that her reunion with the Speaker’s gavel is imminent, there’s a good chance she’ll throw a pretty good stock tip your way, so what the heck. From The Hill : House Democrats will win the House in November, swinging the gavel back into the hands of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Vice President Joe Biden predicted Friday. “Nancy, I think, is not going to be remembered just for being the first woman Speaker,” Biden said, “she’s going to remembered for being the second woman speaker.” Addressing House Democrats gathered on the Eastern Shore for their annual retreat, Biden said the combination of GOP obstructionism and a strengthening economy will propel the Democrats back into control of the lower chamber after just two years in the minority. “It’s becoming absolutely clear the decisions that we made … are actually working,” Biden said, speaking softly because he said he’s battling a cold. It’s sort of a “bad thought, good thought” situation. The bad is that Joe Biden is predicting the Dems will control the House after the election. The good is that in 2010 he predicted the same thing , and, well, you know how that turned out. **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

Biden Prediction: Dems Will Retake House

On Twitter today, I’ve noted that Romney’s seeming squeamishness might make him less likely to sell out conservatives as president than Newt Gingrich. It’s far from the most inspiring rallying cry, but I conclude, “Romney’s fear of a revolt on the right will keep him in line in ways that Gingrich’s ego would never allow.” The perception of Newt Gingrich as much quicker to compromise conservative principles than to ever admit a mistake comes heavily from Sen. Tom Coburn’s 2003 book Breach of Trust , which discusses his years in the House under Gingrich as Speaker, and paints a picture of Gingrich as a raging egomaniac, wildly hypocritical and quick to toss Class of 1994 principles. Actually, her comments are pretty vague, but considering she was out in December with alleged dirt on Speaker Gingrich from his House ethics investigation, it sure seems like a threat. At The Blaze , ” PELOSI: GINGRICH WILL ‘NEVER’ BE PRESIDENT, ‘THERE IS SOMETHING I KNOW’ .” And at London’s Daily Mail , ” ‘Newt will never become President, there is something I know’: Nancy Pelosi issues cryptic threat about Gingrich .” And see the commentary at Legal Insurrection, ” Nancy Pelosi’s evil mind games .”

The March for Life 2012

On January 23, 2012, in Uncategorized, by NatK

Photo credit: ProtestShooter, from last year’s March for Life celebration Today marks the 39th annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. As I note every year, it has become an annual ritual to watch the national media and liberal commentariat strain to ignore or marginalize the burgeoning movement of increasingly young and minority activists taking to the street to stand up for the unborn. If you’re in D.C., it’s not too late to join. Schedule of events and maps are here . March for Life rallies will also take place at state capitols across the country and thousands gathered this weekend. You can also tune in online to the Pro Life Con gathering taking place all day. House Speaker John Boehner will be a featured speaker this afternoon. Danielle Bean explains why she marches: The young people at the annual March for Life assert the unpopular truth that women deserve better than abortion, and instead offer women real choices: genuine alternatives to the harm that abortions cause. When a woman decides that her best “choice” is the destruction of innocent human life growing within her, we have failed her. The government, the community, the church, and we – her friends, neighbors, co-workers, brothers, and sisters – have failed her. Young pro-lifers are determined not to fail women. They know that abortion is a “choice” that ends a human life, stops a heartbeat, and denies a defenseless human being the right to live. They know that the “pro-choice” idea that abortion has no moral, emotional, or psychological consequences is a lie – a lie that women pay for, and a lie that denies every one of us the right to make informed decisions about our own bodies. Everywhere I look at this year’s March for Life, I see young people who reject the lies of previous generations, seek the truth, and stand up as a voice for women and the unborn. I am encouraged as I march alongside these young prolifers and proud that some of my own children are among them. Legalized abortion is a tragic part of our nation’s history, but I see the future here in Washington, D.C. today. And you know what? The kids are all right. Yalies march for life: Over two dozen Yalies will march in Washington, D.C. today along with thousands of pro-life supporters in protest of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision which ruled that the Constitution protects abortion rights. As part of the 39th annual March for Life, 15 undergraduate members of Choose Life at Yale and 11 members of the Yale Divinity School’s Right to Life Fellowship will march from the National Mall to the steps of the Supreme Court in an event that has drawn over 200,000 people in past years. Students attending the march said the annual event, which falls on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, re-energizes them to promote their pro-life views, which are not widely held on Yale’s campus. “It’s an uphill battle when you’re a smaller group and you’re unpopular on campus,” Eduardo Andino ’13, CLAY president, said. “When you have a conscience that tells you that you’re fighting for something as precious as human life, it makes it much easier to continue.” Follow Jill Stanek and support Live Action Films today and every day. *** Side note: Sen. Rand Paul tweeted this morning that he would be speaking to the March for Life rally in D.C. Today I’ll speak to the March for Life in DC. A nation cannot long endure w/o respect for the right to Life. Our Liberty depends on it . #ky But his press secretary tweeted this morning that Sen. Paul was detained by TSA in Nashville . Daily Caller reports: “Just got a call from @senrandpaul,” Bagley tweeted at about 10 a.m. on Monday. “He’s currently being detained by TSA in Nashville.” Bagley hasn’t immediately responded to The Daily Caller’s request for comment for more details. Texas Congressman and current Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul – Sen. Rand Paul’s father – placed a post on Facebook about the news as well. “My son Rand is currently being detained by the TSA at the Nashville Airport,” Ron Paul posted. “I’ll share more details as the situation unfolds.” Sen. Rand Paul’s Facebook page has a post about the incident too. “Senator Paul is being detained at the Nashville Airport by the TSA,” Sen. Rand Paul’s Facebook post reads. “We will update you as the situation develops.” Here’s the follow-up on Sen. Paul’s detention. *** Occupiers crashed a pro-life gathering this weekend. Classy as ever. *** Boehner’s address to March for Life here courtesy of LifeNews.com. Rick Santorum’s fight for life , WSJ op-ed today.

Surging Gingrich Is A Master Of Disguise Or Something

On January 23, 2012, in Uncategorized, by TwilaManozca764

So says The Politico The surging Newt Gingrich has mastered debates — and disguise. The debate part is clear: The former Speaker of the House comes to play and owns the stage with an uncanny capacity to connect with the grievances of conservative voters. The disguise part is clear, too. Gingrich has used his debate skills — and

Romney Opens Aggressive New Phase of Campaign

On January 23, 2012, in barack obama, Uncategorized, by GilruthMilillo633

At Los Angeles Times , ” Mitt Romney tells ‘interrupters’ at rally to ‘take a hike’ “: Reporting from Ormond Beach, Fla.— Mitt Romney opened an aggressive new phase of the Republican presidential campaign as he cruised into Florida on Sunday night — casting Newt Gingrich as an unethical politician whose temperament and unreliability led to his ouster as speaker of the House in the 1990s. After a week in which he conceded his Iowa win to Rick Santorum after a recount and lost to Gingrich by double digits in South Carolina, Romney acknowledged that the Republican contest had become a three-man race. But he took a much tougher tone toward Gingrich – directly raising the ethics investigation that Gingrich faced in the 1990s and demanding that Gingrich provide an accounting for the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. “We’re not choosing a talk show host,” Romney said, alluding to his rival’s strong debate performances that helped shift momentum in his favor in South Carolina. “We’re choosing the person who should be leader of the free world.” He went on to list what he described as the qualities of a leader: integrity, sobriety, judgment, thoughtfulness, reliability and high ethical standards. “You’re going to have to look at that as Floridians and decide which of the people running for president on our side of the aisle includes the qualities of leadership.” After touting his own experience in the private sector, turning around the 2002 Olympic Games and governing the state of Massachusetts, Romney pivoted to Gingrich. “At the end of four years as speaker of the House, it was proven that he was a failed leader,” Romney said. “He had to resign in disgrace. I don’t know whether you knew that.… His fellow Republicans – 88% of his Republicans – voted to reprimand Speaker Gingrich. He has not had a record of successful leadership.” More at Astute Bloggers, ” MITT FIGHTS BACK! ”
