Gov. Bev Perdue said she wouldn’t seek re-election, an unexpected development that could complicate Democrats’ efforts to hold on to the office and President Barack Obama’s chances of carrying the state.

Reuters – Now that President Barack Obama has declared the war over in Iraq, it’s time the country got its tableware back. And the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York is happy to handle the job.

-By Warner Todd Huston Since he ascended from nothing to the office of President of the United States, Obama has shown a disdain for most of our western allies that borders on hatred. But he’s reserved his most backhanded treatment to Israel. It isn’t just what he’s done to show Israel that he has no use

Instead of opening to its regular home page, www.whitehouse.gov – the official web site of the office of the presidency, not the 2012 Obama campaign site – now asks for your e-mail first. Skipping it is an option, of course. But this way visitors can get “periodic updates from President Obama and other administration officials.” Whew! Thank goodness they’re just “periodic updates” and none of those messages will be aimed at persuading Americans to reelect the president!

The Daily Beast – Obama’s new press secretary doesn’t report directly to the president. Lloyd Grove talks to alumni of the office and longtime White House reporters about the limits on Jay Carney’s clout.

Disgusted

On January 8, 2011, in Uncategorized, by

After reading Meredith’s article on the Republican Reps. that missed their own swearing-in ceremony, I have to say I’m simply disgusted. While Reps. Pete Sessions (TX) and Mike Fitzpatrick (PA) both claim that “technically” they were sworn in, albeit remotely, that’s not the point. The point is this: we shouldn’t be having this conversation. There should never even be a hint of a question regarding why two Reps., who are part of a new House majority claiming it will do things different, skipped their swearing-in ceremony. I’m willing to concede that that the event wasn’t a fundraiser. But again, that’s beside the point. Why is a “public” event more important than honoring the spirit of the office you have been elected to hold? Here’s the gist: A swearing-in ceremony should not be fulfilled via technicality. And if that’s how you have to defend it after the fact, an apology is in order. Respect the office and the people and they will respect you. Disgrace it, and all you get is disgust. Let’s make these next two years memorable, not miserable.

Smile, Congressman West!

Thirteen minutes ago, the office of newly-sworn-in Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., sent out this photo, in an e-mail labeled “We did it!” Come on, Congressman. It's your day to be sworn in to an office you campaigned and worked hard to achieve. Sure, you've got a lot of work ahead of you, but you're allowed to smile. Three minutes ago, his office sent out the same message with this photo: Now that's more like it! Jim Geraghty
