Well, this is interesting. At Washington Post , " CNN's Roland Martin suspended for homophobic tweets ." And New York Times , " CNN Suspends Roland Martin for Remarks on Twitter ": [VIDEO PULLED] 5:26 p.m. | Updated CNN said Wednesday that it had suspended Roland Martin, one of its commentators, three days after he posted Twitter messages that were interpreted by some to be anti-gay. “Roland Martin’s tweets were regrettable and offensive,” the cable news channel said in a statement. “Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated. We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland will not be appearing on our air for the time being.” In one of his many Twitter messages, Mr. Martin suggested on Sunday that if a “dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad,” he should be smacked. In another message that day, he made a similar suggestion about a football fan shown on TV wearing a “head to toe pink suit.” When Mr. Martin received angry comments from online readers about the Beckham remark, he defended himself by saying that he was mocking soccer players, not gay people. Right. The hashtag was #teamwhipdatass. See a slideshow of Martin's tweets at Huffington Post, " CNN's Roland Martin Under Fire From GLAAD For David Beckham Super Bowl Tweets ." This is especially interesting since Roland Martin is a progressive lefty, and these folks are supposed to be all about tolerance.

The People’s President is raising money any way he can — and the fashion world’s 1 percent-ers have stepped up to the plate to help. Via the WSJ : At a New York fund-raising event Tuesday called “Runway to Win,” President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign plans to begin selling campaign-themed tote bags, T-shirts and accessories designed by more than two dozen famous designers. Attendees can purchase a tote bag designed by Derek Lam for $75. A collectible makeup bag created by Richard Blanch with nail polish in Red-y To Win Red, Victory White and Bo Blue is going for $40. And a silk scarf featuring Mr. Obama’s likeness by Thakoon Panichgul is $95. Profits from the sales will go to Mr. Obama’s campaign chest. Republicans are rightly raising campaign finance questions about the haute couture deals: “This raises serious questions about whether corporate money, property and employees were improperly used in the design and production of these items without reimbursement,” said Sean Spicer, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee. Jan Baran, an election lawyer with Wiley Rein LLP, said designers can’t ask employees to work on political projects unless they willingly volunteered their time. “Someone who is paid to do campaign work is not a volunteer,” he said. If the designer or staff are paid by anyone other than the campaign, it would be considered a campaign contribution from a company to a candidate. The Obama campaign said the gear complies with campaign-finance rules. “All of the designers volunteered their personal time to create these great designs,” the campaign said, and were “not underwritten with any corporate funds.” Rap mogul and designer Russell Simmons is defending Obama’s By Any Technically Legal Means Necessary strategy: Asked on CNN whether selling designer products could violate campaign finance rules – as some Republicans have suggested – Simmons said, “I think the president should use whatever resources he has within the law.” “The problem is the law the problem is that we allow so much money in politics and there are so many people funding these super PACs that are out of control,” he added. “Until the laws are changed, the president should play by any rules available.” Question: How much would you pay for this ??? *** I’ll have pleeenty to say about Obama’s SuperPAC super-hypocrisy tomorrow.

This clip from Neil Cavuto 's Fox News program "Your World" aired last Friday, but it wasn't available to share at the time. In his "Common Sense" segment, Cavuto pulled news media personalities by the hair for dismissing Donald Trump while simultaneously hanging on to his every word. This was just after Trump had endorsed Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee for president. "They covered Trump live. He didn't ask them to cover him live. They made it a spectacle, he didn't make it a spectacle," Cavuto said. "They called him showman but not a one of them admitted Donald Trump was good for their show, actually very good for their show, all of their shows." Cavuto is generally right. Trump is a walking headline. I write about him frequently (see here , here and here ). And he is all too readily dismissed by figures in the media as a carnival barker without the slightest acknowledgement that that's the very thing that attracts their attention. Let me be the first: Trump is a total crank. But yes, I'll write about him the next time he opens his perpetually pursed mouth anyway.
**Written by Doug Powers During the clamor to pass an extension of the payroll tax cut, President Obama asked “What does $40 mean to you?” His opponents of the way the extension was handled might now be able to counter with, “What does $9,500 mean to you ?” (CBS News) Just before Christmas, American workers got a rare gift from Washington politicians – the current payroll tax cut would be extended for two more months. At the time, both President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner lauded the move to avoid a tax increase for millions of working Americans. But there’s something the politicians weren’t bragging about – the fact that they’re paying for the two-month tax cut with what has turned into a brand new fee on home buyers. The new fee is a minimum of one-tenth of 1 percent on Fannie Mae- and Freddie Mac-backed loans, and is likely to go much higher. It will be imposed for the next 10 years on most mortgages and refinancings and it lasts for the life of the loan. For every $200,000, it amounts to an extra $15 dollars a month. It’s bad news for Patty Anderson, who’s buying a home in Virginia. Anderson will save a couple hundred dollars from having her payroll tax cut extended but her mortgage broker told her the new fee would cost her almost $9,500. The $35.7 billion collected in fees won’t go into the Social Security fund to replace the lost payroll tax. It goes to the general treasury where Congress can spend it however they please . Is this outlined in the Homeowners Bill of Rights ? For now, file this under “robbing Peter for decades to pay Peter for a couple of months”: **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

(AP)"] [/caption] A Ron Paul supporter has filed a lawsuit against the Newt Gingrich campaign, claiming a security officer for the GOP presidential hopeful stomped on his foot "like he was stomping out a cigarette," the Associated Press reported. Edward Dillard, a central Florida resident, said his foot was fractured in the Tuesday incident, which took place on the day of the state's primary. According to the AP, Dillard was wearing a Paul T-shirt and holding a sign at a Gingrich campaign stop in Orlando when a “swarm” of security guards surrounded him, one stomping on his foot while he was wearing open sandals. Yahoo! News reported the incident at the time: Gingrich aides and security personnel swarmed Dillard, trying to intimidate him into moving. One of Gingrich's security agents stepped in front of him. When Dillard didn't budge, the agent lifted his heeled shoe over Dillard's bare foot and dug the back of it into his skin, twisting it side-to-side like he was stomping out a cigarette. Shocked, Dillard kept his ground and took a picture of the agent with his phone, which was quickly knocked out of his hand. Dillard slipped off his flip-flop to pick up the phone with his foot, and a Gingrich supporter kicked the sandal away. "Don't kick me!" Dillard said to the man who knocked away his sandal. More members of Gingrich's security retinue approached, shoving their shoulders and chests in front of him. "Just block him!" a Gingrich campaign aide said. "Everyone step on his toes!" Dillard is seeking damages in excess of $75,000 for battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent hiring, NewsCore reported . Ron Paul’s campaign has called for Gingrich to apologize. The Gingrich campaign has not commented on the matter.

With Facebook announcing yesterday it would officially go public -- hoping for $5 billion in its IPO -- shares in the company's stock with be worth a lot. One graffiti artist who painted the company's headquarters in 2005 -- and at the time told the New York Times he found Facebook "pointless and ridiculous" -- could make $200 million in shares. How? The Daily Mail reports David Choe was given the choice between monetary compensation or the equivalent in shares by the president after painting the company's first headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif. Choe chose the shares. Although the Daily Mail reports that Choe is not making a statement on this wise financial decision now, it does note that this amount in shares is more than Damien Hirst received in his record-breaking sale at Sotheby's in 2008. Choe is also responsible for painting some aspects of Facebook's new headquarters. Facebook's filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission would be a new record since Google's $1.9billion IPO in 2004. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

[caption id="attachment_235526" align="aligncenter" width="446" caption="Protesters surround a vehicle the convoy of U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as it enters the Gaza Strip Thursday. (Image source: Reuters)"] [/caption] Palestinian protesters greeted visiting United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday by hurling shoes and chairs at his convoy as it entered the Gaza Strip, accusing him of being biased toward Israel, Haaretz reported . About 40 protesters were waiting for the convoy on the Palestinian side of the Erez Crossing with Israel. Some held signs that read "Ban Ki-moon enough bias for Israel." As the UN vehicles drove through, protesters beat the vans with their signs and with sticks. Reports of what precisely protesters threw at the convoy varied: Reuters reported it was shoes, sticks and stones while the Associated Press said three protesters hurled slippers and one tossed a boot. The Deutsche Presse-Agentur news agency identified shoes and chairs. According to Haaretz, many of those protesting were relatives of Palestinians being held in Israeli prisons. "We came here in a symbolic message to Mr. Ban Ki-moon that Palestinians from Gaza want to have the right to visit their children and loved ones in Israeli jails," Jamal Farwana, a spokesman for Gaza prisoners' families said. "He should make more of an effort to release the prisoners and we wonder why every time he avoids meeting families of Palestinian prisoners." The protesters also formed a human chain at the crossing in an effort to block the vehicles from entering Gaza, though accompanying security forces from the ruling militant group Hamas moved them away, Haaretz reported. There were no injuries. [caption id="attachment_235529" align="aligncenter" width="446" caption="A shoe is thrown at the convoy of U.N. (Image source: Reuters)"] [/caption] Nevertheless, in speaking to reporters, Ban thanked the people of Gaza for their "warm welcome." He is visiting the region in an effort to restart peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians. According to the Associated Press, Ban did not meet with Hamas officials during his time in Gaza but with U.N. relief officials, aid groups and human rights organizations. Still, in remarks he urged Hamas to end attacks on Israel; a wave of mortar shells fell into southern Israel Wednesday ahead of his arrival. There were no casualties. "All this violence must stop," he said in Gaza. "I would urge the Palestinians from Gaza: They must stop firing rockets on the Israeli side...this killing of civilians is not acceptable."

AP - The Obama administration has more than doubled, to about 21,000 names, its secret list of suspected terrorists who are banned from flying to or within the United States, including about 500 Americans, the Associated Press has learned. The government lowered the bar for being added to the list, even as it says it's closer than ever to defeating al-Qaida.

Romney looks tired here in this CNN interview this morning. Too much post-primary partying, I guess. But it’s exactly the time he needs to be on guard and on his A-game. Instead, he fumbles the post-Florida football and gives ammunition to all of his opponents on both sides of the aisle by reinforcing the perception and reality that he is gobsmackingly out-of-touch. This could easily have been a Saturday Night Live parody. Facepalm : After winning the Florida primary, GOP presidential nominee hopeful Mitt Romney explains to CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien that he is focused on a particular portion of the American population in his campaign. Romney says, “ I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs a repair , I’ll fix it. I’m not concerned about the very rich…. I’m concerned about the very heart of America, the 90-95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling.” O’Brien asked him to clarify his remarks saying, “There are lots of very poor Americans who are struggling who would say, ‘That sounds odd.’” The message shouldn’t be “Let Them Eat Food Stamps.” The message shouldn’t be that he’ll “fix” any holes in the safety net. It’s supposed to be: Get them off food stamps, provide them with real educational choice, reform the culture of dependency, and get government out of the way so that businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive — and increase economic opportunities for everyone. Yes, there is a better choice. Latest PPP results: “Trouble ahead for Romney?” What might be most interesting in both states is what happens in a head to head between Romney and either Gingrich or Santorum: -In Missouri Santorum leads Romney 50-37 and in Ohio Santorum leads 45-38. -In Missouri Gingrich leads Romney 43-42 and in Ohio Gingrich leads 42-39. Two takeaways from those numbers: if this ever came down to Romney, Paul, and just one out of Gingrich and Santorum, Romney would be in a lot of trouble. And he’d be in more trouble if the single conservative alternative ended up being Santorum. Santorum is a stronger long term threat to Romney than Gingrich because he has less baggage and is simply much better liked. Santorum is easily the most popular of the Republican candidates in both Missouri (+42 favorability at 63/21, compared to +20 forGingrich and +10 for Romney) and Ohio (+35 at 59/24 compared to +10 for both Gingrich and Romney). It’s just proving hard for Santorum to get much traction while Gingrich is still in the race. *** Update: Romney updated his comments here . I don’t think it helps much. Do you?
