At Washington Post , ” Gingrich vows to fight on to the convention .” And at New York Times , ” Gingrich Pledges Bitter Battle Until Convention “: Newt Gingrich vowed again to stay in the Republican presidential contest until the convention in August and said he will spend the next several months engaged in a bitter battle with Mitt Romney. Speaking to the press after the Nevada caucuses Saturday, Mr. Gingrich repeatedly hammered Mr. Romney as a pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-taxes candidate who has the backing of the Republican establishment. “I am a candidate for president of the United States,” he said. “I will be a candidate for president of the United States. I will go to Tampa.” Mr. Romney ignored Mr. Gingrich in his victory speech tonight. But Mr. Gingrich seemed insistent on making sure that his rival cannot simply look the other way. He accused Mr. Romney of purposely leaking false information about Mr. Gingrich’s plans to drop out of the presidential race, calling that Mr. Romney’s “greatest fantasy” in the race. And Mr. Gingrich said that recent meetings he held with donors were meant to map out a plan to continue getting his message out despite Mr. Romney’s superior fund-raising. “The entire establishment will be against us,” he predicted. But he said that by appearing on national television and doing interviews in newspapers, he will spread his agenda. “The American people want somebody who is genuinely conservative, who is prepared to change Washington,” Mr. Gingrich said. The question, really, is where can Newt win? Where will he do well in upcoming states? And when? He needs to do something fast. I don’t have the answers right now, but I’ll check and update. It’s one thing to pledge a campaign all the way to the GOP convention in Tampa. It’s another thing to do so without making yourself look like a sore loser and a fool. Reuters – The White House received a letter last year purported to come directly from Mullah Omar, the reclusive leader of the Taliban, asking the United States to deliver militant prisoners whose transfer is now at the heart of the Obama administration’s bid to broker peace in Afghanistan.

Attorney General Eric Holder castigated an Idaho congressman while testifying before the House Oversight Committee Thursday, accusing him of committing one of the “worst things I think I’ve ever seen in Congress.” Holder was on Capitol Hill to testify in an ongoing congressional probe into the failed Operation Fast and Furious, in which weapons sold to Mexican drug cartels were not tracked, resulting in the deaths of hundreds, including a U.S. Border Patrol agent. According to National Review Online , Holder was responding to a “grandstanding presentation” by Republican Congressman Raul Labrador that “cobbled together testimony from Holder going back ten years to establish a ‘pattern’ of Holder saying, in effect, ‘I don’t know’ in testimony.” “There’s a whole bunch of things that I could say about what you just did, maybe this is the way you do things in Idaho or wherever you’re from,” Holder said. “But understand something — I’m proud of the work that I’ve done as attorney general of the United States, and looked at fairly, I think that I’ve done a pretty good job.” He continued, “Have I been perfect? No. Have I made mistakes? Yes. Do I treat the members of this committee with respect? I always hope that I do. And what you have just done is if nothing else, disrespectful. And if you don’t like me that’s one thing. You should respect the fact that I hold an office that is deserving of respect.” “And you know, maybe you’re new to this committee, I don’t know, I don’t know how long you’ve been here. But my hope would be that we can get beyond that kind of interaction, that kind of treatment of a witness whether it’s me or somebody else because I think what you just did was fundamentally unfair, just not right,” Holder said.

AP – The Obama administration has more than doubled, to about 21,000 names, its secret list of suspected terrorists who are banned from flying to or within the United States, including about 500 Americans, the Associated Press has learned. The government lowered the bar for being added to the list, even as it says it’s closer than ever to defeating al-Qaida.

This morning, I wrote , “Eric Holder Should Become a Campaign Issue Today.” Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle, New York Republican, offered a fine example of how to skewer the administration. The Attorney General of the United States should not be able to avoid any serious accountability by accusing critics of “political games” and claiming that he is the target of “character assassination.” Keep reading this post . . .

Discussing Fast & Furious, Holder Laments His ‘Character Assassination’
As mentioned earlier on The Blaze , Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has come under fire for some strongly worded remarks he made over the weekend. Bob Beckel of Fox News’ The Five , for example, has condemned Rep. West’s comments as “disgraceful,” “despicable,” and “disgusting.” Naturally, since Rep. West’s comments have made headlines, major media outlets have been fighting to get some face time with the controversial Congressman. First up was Soledad O’Brien of CNN’s Starting Point . O’Brien played a clip of Rep. West’s “get the hell out” remarks, then said: “I don’t get it. I mean, I don’t understand what you’re saying. Which is… you’re telling Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to get out of the United States. Explain it to me.” “No, Soledad. Soledad. Absolutely not. And you know that,” Rep. West replied. “No, I truly — no joke. I am not being facetious. I do not get what you’re saying.” “Well the thing is,” West explained, “you should have listened to the entire speech. You didn’t listen to the entire speech which talked about the contrast between the quality of opportunity which allowed a young man born in 1961 in the inner city of Atlanta Georgia to now represent the highest-income zip code in the entire United States of America. That’s the America that I love, that’s the America that’s dear to me.” West concluded his remarks by inviting O’Brien to come to south Florida and read the Federalist papers and Constitution with him. “As fun as that sounds, the two of us sitting down and reading the Federalist papers together,” O’brien giggled. “No, I’ll stick to the TV interviews with you if you don’t mind.” See the Congressman’s exchange with O’brien via Mediaite : Later in the morning, when Fox and Friends asked the Congressman about Bob Beckle’s freak-out, Rep. West explained, “If you go back and read the transcript of the message that I gave, it was about equality of achievement, about economic dependency, it was about enslaving the American entrepreneur well in spirit. That message needs to leave this country.” He went on to say that if anyone watched that entire speech they would understand that he’s talking about “a contrast of visions in this country.” “I think Bob Beckel owes me an apology for saying that he would not refer to me as a Congressional representative nor as a Lieutenant Colonel Retired,” West said. See the Fox and Friends exchange via Fox Nation: Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com Of course, once Beckel caught wind of Rep. West’s suggestion, he scoffed at the very thought of dialing back his rhetoric. “Mr. West,” Beckel said, “Let me just tell you, if you’ve got enough time you can wait, but I am not going to apologize to you.” Going around the table, Beckel asked his co-hosts if they thought he should apologize. For some reason, some of Beckel’s associates became squeamish and responded to his question with non-committal answers. “In the end, Beckel declared the situation over, saying that West has one position and he has his own. There wasn’t, however, any apology,” writes Mediaite’s Jon Bershad . Watch The Five’s discussion via Mediaite :
