Ugh . Unfortunately all this debt talk is taking up everyone’s time in Washington nowadays, taking precious time away from addressing more important issues, like football . Thankfully, a bunch of Republican staffers are on top of things, including Kara Webster, scheduler for Rep. John Runyan (R-N.J.), who reportedly sent out this message yesterday to fellow Hill staffers about an important football planning meeting today: From: Webster, Kara Sent: Thursday, July 28, 2011 3:29 PM To: Subject: Congressional Football Game – MEMBERS MEETING TOMORROW after votes Hi *MORE* Republican Schedulers! We wanted to alert you that Reps. Shuler, Shuster and Runyan will hold an organizational meeting TOMORROW, Friday, July 29th after First Votes in Room H-122 about the upcoming Congressional Football Game. *First Votes are expected to end between 1:00 and 1:30pm. They are looking to recruit players, inform your bosses about a tentative practice schedule (which will kick-off when we come back in September), and let your bosses know the possible dates we are looking to hold the game (Oct. 12th or 13th). Also – this will be a FLAG Football game; however, we may have everyone wear helmets in the off-chance there is a collision. We hope your bosses will come to the meeting and will want to play in the game!!! Thanks so much! Kara Webster Scheduler Congressman Jon Runyan Third District, New Jersey U.S. House of Representatives

There are many conservatives who advocate for cutting all foreign aid as a means to trim the deficit. But what some might not realize is that doing so would also end another popular conservative staple — aiding Israel, as it is one of the top benefactors of U.S. foreign aid. That’s the point GOP Rep. Dan Webster (who beat out Alan Grayson in Florida last fall) was trying to make last weekend when he appeared on the local TV program “Good Life 45.” But Webster went a step further. He said that discontinuing help to Israel would mean “we lose God’s hand and we’re in big time trouble:” Here’s the transcript : WEBSTER: I believe God’s hand needs to be on this country. HOST: That’s right. WEBSTER: Some people have been talking about, every place I go, they bring up the issue foreign aid. I go, you can’t get rid of all foreign aid. Why? Because you ask them and they go, ‘yea we can’t do that.’ You take away the money from Israel? No. That’s something we can’t do. Do I like foreign aid? Sometimes, but not every time. Don’t like giving money to our enemies, but I love giving money to Israel. And so there’s a picture there that people realize that, we stop helping Israel, we lose God’s hand and we’re in big time trouble. HOST: That’s right. Webster’s comments, which have riled up the left, make sense when you realize he served for years as a pastor. For him, then, supporting Israel is not just a conservative position, but it is a religious one. But one doesn’t need to be religious to defend continued aid to Israel. For example, there are those who see Israel as a key ally in the Middle East, and it’s existence guarantees a stable partner in a very unstable area. What do you think? Do you Agree with Webster on Israel? customer surveys

A Legislator and a Gentleman
One eight hour, door-to-door journey ends, another begins… but fear not: the Jolt continues . Today, a nominee for the best column about Obama ever, Patty Murray’s bipolar attitude toward violent metaphors, and then this news item, which feels like a rerun from about two years ago… Maybe the Crowd Was Angry Because They Expected Emmanuel Lewis This phenomenon sounds familiar, only the parties have flipped : “A town hall meeting held in Orlando by U.S. Rep. Dan Webster degenerated into bedlam Tuesday, with members of the crowd shouting down the freshman Republican congressman and yelling at one another. It was the last of a series of town hall meetings Webster has hosted during Congress’ spring recess, which ends Monday. While the others were civil and largely uneventful, the 300 people at Tuesday’s meeting were so raucous they were scolded by a police officer to act “like grown people.”
Hard-left progressives continue to defend disgraced Congressman Alan Grayson. Indeed, a forthcoming documentary lionizes him, “Sreet Fighting Man: The Political Mind of Alan Grayson”: And Grayson scoffed at new polling findings that show him trailing challenger Dan Webster by seven points: ” Grayson in Denial: Can’t Believe He’s Lost 20 Points in CD8 .” But recall that Dan Webster’s getting national support in his bid to unseat Grayson. This is going to be delicious. Nate Silver’s model currently sees Webster with a 60.6 percent chance of taking the the seat:

Alan Grayson Backlash
In the spirit of Rep. Alan Grayson’s (D-FL) recent out-of-context attack ad on his Republican opponent Dan Webster, Townhall has put a little something together:

**Written by Doug Powers The hopefully future ex-Florida Representative and inspiration for the invention of the straight-jacket is down by seven points in Florida: In one of the most closely watched U.S. House races in the nation, Republican Daniel Webster now holds a 7-point lead over Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson in Central Florida’s 8th Congressional District, according to a new Sunshine State News Poll. Webster, a former state senator, leads the freshman congressman 43-36 in the survey of 559 likely voters conducted Sept. 25-27. TEA (“Taxed Enough Already”) Party candidate Peg Dunmire drew 6 percent and NPA hopeful George Metcalfe garnered 3 percent, while 9 percent remained undecided (2 percent cited “other” and 1 percent refused to state). Digging deeper, the numbers look even worse for Grayson as 51 percent of respondents said they had an unfavorable view of the Orlando-area congressman. Time to make more of those lying, disgraceful context-edited ads ! Saying the “Taliban Dan” ad was a “new low” as applied to Alan Grayson is a redundancy of the highest order. There’s still over a month until the election, so there’s plenty more “low” to go. Here’s the reason for Grayson’s desperation to paint Daniel Webster as the second coming of Ike Turner meets Archie Bunker: Female voters are anything but ambivalent about Grayson — “They really loathe him,” Lee reported. With Grayson’s 33/53 favorable/unfavorable rating among women, Webster’s lead among females is much stronger (45/33 over Grayson) compared to a statistical tie (41/40 Webster) among males. Epic backfire . (h/t Brian Faughnan ) **Written by Doug Powers Twitter @ThePowersThatBe

Florida's 8th congressional district features a race between the Devil and Daniel Webster . Oh, you think I exaggerate?
