I’m watching movies. My oldest son was watching “Twilight” when I came downstairs earlier. We have it on DVD, but Showtime’s playing the full saga and I kept watching. A nice break from reading and watching cable news all afternoon. (My youngest son’s working on his Legos. More about that later. He’s got some new ones.)

She was just 9 years-old. My wife, who’d been working most of the weekend, broke down in tears when she saw Christina’s father interviewed. She came downstairs and told me what Mr. Green said about his daughter: ” She was born and she left us in very tragic moments in United States history .” See, U.S. News, ” 9-Year-Old Girl Is Youngest Victim of Arizona Massacre .” My youngest son was born just over a month before Christina. Yes, that kind of minuscule connection — of random similarities in age of children who’d never met — still makes the sadness that much deeper. (And makes the left’s ridicule that much more sick and reprehensible.) I promised my wife I’d say some words for Christina, here at the blog, and all the families involved are in our prayers. See Los Angeles Times , ” Profiles of the Arizona Shooting Victims .”

I took my youngest son to Etnies Skatepark today. It was his very first time at a skatepark. He’s been playing Tony Hawk games on Wii — and while that’s not new, he’s also been watching Zeke and Luther on Disney XD . So the combination’s implanted skateboarding in the brain. Thus I thought I’d take him out to see how he could do. And not bad for his first time. He took a little spill down one of the smaller bowls. You can see the park’s layout at the top clip. There’s a $5.00 sign-up fee and parent’s sign a liability waiver, and that’s it. After that it’s free. I signed up too, but I need to buy some gear. I haven’t done any serious skateboarding in years. But I’m gonna go for it again. You’re only young once. At the second clip below is Ryan Sheckler, who’s featured in some of the Wii Tony Hawk games my kid plays. And at bottom is Christian Hosoi and Eddie Reatigui , dudes I used to skate with back in the day:

Wicked cool video. My youngest son digs Willow Smith. Kinda like the hip-hop gen’s Jackson Pollock . And while Will Smith is leftist as all get out, you gotta give it up for his 7 year-old daughter:

I Whip It Real Hard, Real Hard…
This morning, in Irvine. I’ve been off the grid most of the day. I had some lab tests done this morning (blood work, etc., in advance of my annual physical next month). After that I stopped by my youngest son’s school to drop of his lunch (which I forgot to make early this morning). And then I headed over to Ruby’s off Barranca in Irvine for breakfast. Here’s the view looking Northeast, over the Woodbridge Lake to Saddleback Mountain in the distance: I’ve been doing some grading as well. My fall newspaper assignments were due last week, and I generally have grading through the first week of December (depending on how disciplined I am in completing these). So, if posting seems light on some days I’m probably just busy with other things. Meanwhile, Washington Rebel has a response to my thoughts on leaving California: ” Preparing for the Worst .”

At Ruby’s
At KABC-TV Los Angeles and Los Angeles Times . It was 108 degrees in Irvine at 3:30pm, when I picked my oldest son up from his high school. I called my youngest son’s after school program to make sure they kept him inside. I’ll update if I see any reports on claims of “global warming.”
